She was bom Aug. 2 4 . 1946 in Birmingham, Ala..the third child o f N orm an and A nnie C atherine W ooding. She con fessed C hrist at an early age and jo in e d St. John B a p tist C h u rch under the leader ship o f Rev. J.C. Crosby. She w as very active in church and started singing in the youth choir at an early age. She was active in the Civil Rights M ovem ent jo in in g her sis ter Sandra in W ashington D.C. for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s fam ous speech “I Have a D ream ” in 1963. A fter the march on W ash ington, they attended the march from Selm a, Ala. to M ontgom ery, Ala. Both w ent to jail, w alked the picket lines, were sprayed with a fire hose, and played significant roles in getting African A m eri cans registered to vote and cast ing ballots. She met Joseph Davis and was married in 1966, and to that union two beautiful daughters were bom; Victoria (Vickie) and Nedra in Port land, Ore. They attended St. Mark Baptist Church where she was ac- tive in thechoirand mission depart ment, under the leadership o f the late Rev. Wilder. In the early 1990s she united with New Hope Baptist Church underthe leadershipof Rev. RobertC. Jointer, then joined Fel lowship Baptist Church underthe leadership o f Rev. Johnny Pack IV, where she served faithfully until her death. She w as alw ays giving, run ning errands, cooking and tak ing care o f everyone. She never could say no to anyone. She will truly be m issed by all the lives that she touched. She was preceded in death by her m other and a sister. Brenda W ooding Jackson.
